Donation Guide

So you’ve finally cleaned up, edited, purged and organized your space, so now what?!

If you’re curious about the best ways to donate clothes, household items, books, kids’ items, sports equipment, and more you’ve come to the right place! Here are some of our tried and true tips and favorite places to donate unwanted or gently used items – some will even pay you!

CLOTHING CONSIGNMENT

If you have gently worn items you’d like to get paid for we’ve got you covered! We love using The Revury for gently clothing and accessories. Not only do they offer the convenience of at home pick up, but they take a long list of high and low-end designer brands. Once your items are received you can create an account, track all your sales and then will receive monthly checks for items sold. Added bonus: This is a company started and run by mothers! We also love using companies like The Real Real or Thread Up. However, if you’re looking to reduce your lead time and carbon footprint we suggest going with a locally run consignment shop. And chances are the commissions are higher as well!

CLOTHING DONATION

We recommend a few options here…you can either drop items off at your local shelter or church or leave them at a nonprofit center for sale like Goodwill. or Salvation Army. For items too worn for shelters or re-use, there are companies like For Days that are transparent about their recycling efforts to keep your clothing out of landfills. Simply send $20 to For Days and they will ship out a giant bag to put your clothing items in and return. For a small price, this allows you to remove clothing from the house as well as do your part for our planet’s future.

“BUY NOTHING SITES”

Take advantage of your local ‘Buy Nothing’ sites on platforms like Facebook, to offload items to people close by in your community. Most often individuals are accepted into these groups by either knowing someone in the community/forum or by having a recommendation from a member. This ensures safety and comfort with the interactions that take place.

CHILDREN ITEMS, BOOKS AND HOUSEHOLD GOODS

Our first stop to donate these items is always a shelter or church. You can go find your nearest Red Cross or Domestic Shelter by clicking on these links, or simply drive by a local church and ask if they’re currently accepting donations. We also take old blankets and warm items to local animal shelters and rescues.

JUNK

No really, we use this company as well as a list of others for larger items that need to be removed for donation or trash. The process: Call and give them an idea of donation size/quantity and they will provide an estimate on the spot as well as schedule a same day pick-up!! 1-800-Got Junk and The Junk Luggers

Be sure to save this for future reference and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any additional questions or needs! Happy donating!

xx Teresa
