Before Starting Your Next Organization Project
Have you thought about jumping into a home project this summer? But you’re not quite sure where to start, so the project never gets done? Well, we’re here to tell you exactly where to start and what you’ll need to get all your home organization projects checked off your list this summer.
// REVIEW - First assess the space in your home and decide what overall aesthetic you’re hoping for. This could be a style/color combo that matches what you currently have, or something that will jump-start a new overall look. Get ideas from professionals by looking at Pinterest boards, social media home influencers like Jenni Kayne Home, and Lulu and Georgia or organization sites like Neat Method or The Container Store for inspiration.
// EDIT - Before starting any big home project we always suggest editing the space first. Get rid of anything you no longer use or need so you’re only organizing your new space with items you love! Some of the questions we ask ourselves when decluttering are… “when was the last time I used this item?” “would I buy this item at full price today?” “Do I have more than one of these?” Create piles for trash, donations and give to someone. And make sure to get disperse of them immediately so they don’t sit in your trunk for a month (we all do it).
// MEASURE - Have you ever heard the phrase measure twice, cut once? There’s nothing worse than buying a bunch of bins and baskets to only come home and for them not to fit! Measuring the space to know how high you can stack bins, making sure baskets don’t hang off a shelf, ensuring drawers have enough clearance, and that dividers are long enough, are all part of the process. And in the long run saves a trip back to the store which usually puts the project on hold.
// PURCHASE - ALWAYS BUY EXTRA! There’s nothing worse than being mid-project and needing one more bin! Returns are a part of the process so we always suggest buying a few more than you think you need and returning the unused products.
