Is Your Kids Closet Ready For Back-to-School?
IS YOUR KIDS CLOSET BACK-TO-SCHOOL READY?
Summer is flying by and before we know it our kiddos will be back in school. To be honest I'm starting to stress a bit about getting the kids closets in order before that first day. My thoughts are…do they have enough clothes (uniforms in our case) do their shoes still fit, do they have socks without holes…all the things us moms overthink!
Believe it or not, getting their closet cleaned out, organized and ready for school takes 4 simple steps. This is the same process we use in all our client projects to create more organized and streamlined spaces.
01. EDIT //
Take out everything (yes, EVERYTHING) and create three piles.
Keep // Items that still fit, are in good conditions are ready to wear.
Donate // Items that no longer fit but can still be worn.
Toss // Items that are damaged or stained and no longer fit/needed
Then take inventory of what you have kept and make a list of what you need to replace or add to for a complete back to school wardrobe.
02. CATEGORIZE //
Group all kept items together based on their need and use – pants, shorts, shirts, sweatshirts etc. Take into account your kids daily needs and categorize by priority of use and needs. If your kids wear uniforms, make sure they are hung low so kids can grab themselves. Or if sports are a priority make sure they are caterogized together in one spot!
03. CONTAIN //
Now it's time to contain and organize each category. Use bins and baskets that fit the space to separate and hold all your items for easy use and visibility. (tip: remember to measure your shelves and drawers before buying organizers). Don't forget matching hangers and drawer dividers for a complete organized space.
04. MAINTAIN //
Do this project with your kids and teach them how to maintain their space. Plus, keep an empty basket in their closet for “to small” clothes so they don't get added back into the rotation, taking up valuable space. Once the basket is full, you can drop it off at your nearest donation center.
Remember this 4-step process when organizing any space in your home.
Happy Organizing…
